Director of Investments at Workday Ventures in Pleasanton, CA

The Director of Workday Ventures and Investments will identify, evaluate, structure, negotiate and recommend venture and corporate investments for Workday. This role will be critical in supporting ongoing growth and innovation. This position reports to the VP of Corporate Development.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and evaluating start-ups and later-stage companies in the enterprise software space
  • Leading due diligence from start to finish, including initial evaluation, review of performance, financial review, valuation models
  • Managing a proprietary database of potential investments
  • Performing external market research and developing sector expertise to assist in identifying and sourcing new deals
  • Actively monitoring and evaluating internal roadmaps
  • Interacting across Workday business units, technology team, and corporate functions to connect internal and external innovation
  • Preparing investment reviews and other documentation required for approvals
  • Coordinating legal review and documentation for deal closing
  • Building ongoing relationships with potential investments, existing portfolio companies, and investors
  • Work with portfolio companies, including monitoring of performance, providing support, and following up on investments
  • Manage quarterly updates for tracking plans, valuations, and exit plans for portfolio companies

Education and Professional Accomplishments:

  • Outstanding academic background from a top-tier university
  • BS/BA and MBA strongly preferred, technical undergraduate degree preferred
  • 8+ years’ experience, including at least 5-7 years in corporate venture, venture capital, private equity or strategic principal investing
  • Experience at both venture and later-stage investments preferred
  • Experience investing in, and understanding of, the enterprise software space preferred

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with success as a collaborator at all levels of an organization
  • Strong quantitative skills, analytical ability, and investment judgment
  • Excellent proficiency in financial modeling and comprehension in accounting, and valuation
  • Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • Team player with proven track record working within a complex organization and with a variety of key stakeholders
  • Strong work ethic, professional demeanor and high degree of integrity
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
