Reporting to the Director, Corporate Development, the Associate, Corporate Development develops business plans and financial models to support the analysis and evaluation of strategic opportunities. The Associate also provides transaction support, facilitates due diligence activities, and conducts complex market analyses. The Associate applies his/her knowledge and experience in the pharma/biotech industry to facilitate effective and efficient decision-making by Aptinyx leadership.
Essential Functions:
- Attains and maintains comprehensive knowledge of Aptinyx’s core technology, discovery and development programs, competitor and potential competitor products, and the disease states potentially relevant to Aptinyx products
- Participates in a range of corporate transaction-related activities to include deal analysis, market analysis, and coordination of third party due diligence
- Assists in the identification and evaluation of portfolio management/enhancement opportunities that may include acquisitions, divestitures, and in-licensing opportunities
- Prepares transaction-related (external and internal) review documents
- Manages due diligence processes – data room management, cross-functional alignment, gathering and reporting salient information, etc.
- Creates models related to potential transactions and performs other quantitative analyses
- Develops market analysis and validates assumptions critical to the underlying business strategy
- Creates, maintains, and updates product market and valuation models to facilitate strategic decision making
- Develops effective presentations for senior management
- Reviews, edits, and may negotiate contracts and other agreements working closely with legal counsel
- Manages version control and overall workflow processes for contracts and other legal agreements
- Maintains corporate website by ensuring changes are vetted with appropriate parties and coordinates both content and technical updates with public relations firm
- Works closely with public relations to draft, edit, review and release press releases and maintains internal archive of related documentation

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or related discipline
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 3 years of work experience:
- at a pharma/biotech company in a business development, marketing, strategy or similar role; or
- at a pharma/biotech company in an R&D role with significant business/commercial exposure; or
- in venture capital, consulting or investment banking with a focus on pharma/biotech
- Experience with legal agreements (reviewing, editing, and/or drafting)
- Analytical mindset with experience developing and using financial and ad hoc analytical models to guide decision making
- Experience in financial and valuation analysis
- Experience performing research and using imperfect information to develop credible assumptions and inform analysis efforts
- Creativity in approach to structuring transactions and general problem solving
- Thorough understanding of the life sciences value chain
- Familiarity with the functions integral to successfully evaluating potential business development opportunities (e.g., research, development, regulatory, CMC, QA/QC, commercial, finance, legal, IP)
- Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
- Highly detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external team members across functions

- Participation in or exposure to licensing and/or transaction efforts
