Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level. Principal Professionals are either work leads over others or are considered a subject matter expert in a particular area.
The Venture Analyst will evaluate, advance and partner a portfolio of healthcare technologies, and will execute on the plans for reshaping the innovation ecosystem at the AMC. The Venture Analyst will support in the evaluation of venture capital investment opportunities for the CU Healthcare Innovation Fund.
Examples of Work Performed:

  • Generating primary content and performing due diligence on external innovation partnership opportunities
  • Interview external startup teams management
  • Assess market opportunity and risks, product risks, execution risks, competitive landscape, exit opportunities, legal landscape, and next steps required for development
  • Provide well written documentation and/or executive summaries that succinctly describes research/analysis findings (e.g. company profile, competitive landscape analyses, due diligence reports, investment memorandums) for internal/external stakeholders
  • Generating primary content and performing due diligence on internal innovation opportunities;
  • Meet and interview internal innovators to better understand proposals
  • Assess market opportunity and risks, product risks, execution risks, competitive landscape, exit opportunities, legal landscape, and next steps required for development
  • Provide well written documentation and/or executive summaries that succinctly describes research/analysis findings (e.g. target product profiles, product/market fit, competitive landscape analyses) for internal stakeholders
  • Prepare a variety of documents and presentations including memos, proposals, and presentation in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Perform in-depth industry research
  • Assist in the development and analysis of financial models
  • Serve as a liaison between CU Innovations and the entrepreneurial ecosystem (startups, angel investors, accelerators, incubators, integrators) to foster new partnerships or support development projects
  • Lead and manage special projects through to completion
  • Participate in industry and entrepreneurship events
  • Stay informed on latest market trends/opportunities
  • Assist in the development of new university spinouts
  • Search for new, interesting companies and make first contact with them

Salary and Benefits:Salary is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in biological/life sciences, or MBA
  • Experience conducting market/company research in a venture role setting
  • Business experience in a high-technology entrepreneurial setting, venture development

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and experience with digital health technology commercialization process.
  • Knowledge of biotechnology (pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics) commercialization process a plus
  • Ability to develop and maintain a network of professional contacts
  • Ability to work independently and to manage a large, diverse set of tasks and projects with an attention to detail
  • Highly self-motivated professional with exceptional analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to values and strong business ethics
  • Strong knowledge of Excel including advanced functions.
  • Experience with cash flow modeling and investment valuation techniques
  • Ability to produce well designed professional looking PowerPoint presentations
