At Forerunner, we invest in companies that operate at the intersection of evolution and opportunity. We strive to work with founders who are more than great leaders, but also shepherds for entire industries, driving markets to better, more sustainable solutions. In doing so, these leaders are pushing business forward, bringing to life inventive business models, experiences and products.
Over the past decade, we have been proud to work with standout companies and brands from Dollar Shave Club & Warby Parker, to Glossier & Chime. As we look forward to the next decade, we are eager to partner with those companies that seek to solve needs as well as wants, such as emerging leaders Faire, Oura & Juni Learning. Like the companies we invest in, we continue to evolve and expand our learning and thinking, bringing us deeper into categories spanning commerce, education, health/wellness, personal empowerment, and sustainability.
Forerunner is based in San Francisco, California.
The Analyst role
At Forerunner, our Analyst program is designed to be a two-year role, with an emphasis on gaining exposure to the lifecycle of investing, starting with sector research all the way through follow-on investment decisions.
As an Analyst at Forerunner, you will work with members of the Investment Team to learn about new themes and technologies, and develop tools to evaluate the merits and risks of potential investments. Through consumer research projects, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our underlying investment theses and reach out to start conversations with industry experts, consumer groups and emerging companies. You will be responsible for tracking, managing and analyzing our deal flow, while also assisting in investment due diligence, and select efforts to support our current portfolio companies.
What are we looking for?
This is a role that primarily supports efforts led by senior team members. It is important to be a flexible and resourceful self-starter who embraces a team attitude. The role is designed for a person post undergrad with 0-2 years of work experience.
Ideal candidates show up with a read on emerging market opportunities, but most importantly with a greater level of curiosity to go deeper and learn more. We are looking for candidates with a passion for today’s evolving consumer who are eager to learn about shifting business ecosystems and new models.
Through primary research, we aim to be one step ahead of the market. Keeping a pulse on unfolding trends, especially within emerging groups, will be an important part of this role’s contributions. Our new teammate will need to be analytical and able to leverage data to offer informed, logical views. Asking the right question is far more important than having all the answers.
Forerunner is proud of our commitment to diversity. Since our founding, we have prioritized building a team diverse in race, gender, background, experience and skills. But, we’re also conscious that there are many voices not yet represented at our table. We hope that our new team member will bring a fresh perspective with a mixture of trendspotting and ideas shaped by their own upbringing and life experiences.
Application Process
Interested candidates should apply via the short survey here. We will review initial submissions received prior to November 5th and then ask a selected group of candidates to submit more detailed video responses to additional questions. From there, we’ll move a final group of candidates to a round of virtual interviews with our team. The goal is to complete the process by mid December, with a planned start date in January 2021.
