When Bullpen Capital launched 10 years ago, our goal was to back overlooked entrepreneurs left behind by the latest Silicon Valley fads. Since then, without compromising on that vision, we have invested in companies like Carbon Health, Fanduel, Ipsy, Grove Collaborative, Braze, and over 100 others.
We do one thing, and we do it well: post-seed financing for people and companies that have found that special product-market fit but are overlooked for no good reason. We love out-of-favor categories and entrepreneurs that don’t come from central casting. We leave out all the traditional venture fluff and get to a company’s core operating truth. We don’t prescribe to market hype and let the metrics speak for themselves.
We’re operators at heart and as a partnership, have collectively founded over a dozen companies including Electronic Arts, Aggregate Knowledge, Madison Reed, and Zynga. Through these experiences, we know what it’s like to build a company and go from zero to one and everything after. We’re the ones you know you can call at 2am and will have your back every step of the way.
Who we’re looking for:
You will be a critical part of the investment process and work alongside the partnership as well as the extended team to identify and evaluate new opportunities. We believe in being “data-informed” as a fund and you’ll develop the skills to get to the core of a company’s business. Beyond sourcing and driving due diligence, you’ll get to support the entrepreneurs across our portfolio.
We gravitate towards scrappy individuals who are self-driven and question the status quo, often entrepreneurial, analytically thoughtful, intellectually curious, with an unconventional point of view. Your background doesn’t matter — we’d like to see candidates from all walks and professions: what’s important is someone who can bring fresh perspectives to challenge our opinions.
This is an apprenticeship at its core, and the right candidate will be able to adapt, learn things quickly, and develop a strong foundational skill-set by doing so. It’s also a place to figure out from experience what you love and/or excel at doing. Previous analysts have gone on to join other leading venture funds and become executives at portfolio companies.
