The Citi Impact Fund, which was launched in early 2020, is dedicated to investing in double bottom line private sector startups that have a positive impact on society. Citi’s Impact Investing team works in partnership with Citi Ventures and Global Spread Products to manage the Fund, including all origination, due diligence, underwriting, closing, and monitoring of the investments. We leverage each organization’s business capabilities to accelerate our portfolio companies’ growth by providing financing, marketing and other business solutions that enhance the value of our invested dollars. Investments target U.S.-based companies that are applying innovative solutions to help address four societal challenges, with a particular focus on supporting businesses founded or led by women/minority entrepreneurs:
Workforce development: solutions for upskilling, connecting workers to jobs, supporting women in the workforce and in leadership Sustainability: solutions for energy, water, carbon impact, sustainable production, circular economies Financial capability: solutions for increasing financial inclusion Physical & social infrastructure: solutions to improve housing, transportation and healthcare
This role will (a) source distinctive startups in our focus areas, (b) build deep relationships in the venture and startup ecosystem, and (c) support a portfolio of companies. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who shares our enthusiasm for double bottom-line investing and is interested in being part of a team building a new initiative from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as key leader on the Impact Investing team helping to design strategy and direction for the function
- Establish collaborative relationships between the Impact Fund and other businesses and functions across CIti to identify ways to better serve diverse entrepreneurs and drive positive social impact
- Serve as a senior investment officer sourcing, screening and tracking deal flow proactively, via research-based targeted outreach and reactively by developing relationships with entrepreneurs and investors
- Help portfolio companies align product roadmaps with key industry challenges and catalyze commercialization opportunities among Citi colleagues and clients
- Manage and track portfolio company results and present to senior leadership
- Lead the development of market research on emerging industry trends, deal flow, and specific startups and serve as senior subject matter expert on impact investing
- Create investment decks, models, and deal memos
- Prepare presentations on industry trends for internal and external discussions
- Serve as senior external spokesperson and representative of Citi Community Investing and Development function with a variety of public, private and non–profit stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in technical/analytical discipline. Graduate degree in relevant field preferred
- 7+ years of experience in venture investing (at a venture capital or growth equity firm or in corporate venture investing), investment banking or consulting
- Impact investing or startup experience is a plus
- Experience and a professional network in one or more of the Fund’s focus areas
- Drive and ability to collaborate in teams and work independently
- Ability to articulate and debate opinions on potential investments
- Ability to navigate a large complex financial services organization and influence other senior leaders
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort communicating with a broad range of stakeholders
