SE Ventures is backed by Schneider Electric, a Global Fortune 500 industry leader in Climate Technology, Sustainability and Industrial Automation. SE Ventures is currently investing out of its €500M Fund II in new start ups, incubations and fund of funds that operate at the interlink of sustainability, electrification and automation while also managing 35+ start ups from its €500M Fund I portfolio.
Working alongside the Venture Investments team, the Operating Partner will engage with the SE Ventures investment portfolio and the broader start up ecosystem to drive high impact outcomes for SE Ventures:
- Be the bridge between start ups and SE business lines to enable creation of new GTM channels and product offers that result in ‘win win’ commercial partnerships
- Partner with SE business leaders and start ups to deliver tangible multi year value creation for SE business lines via time to market acceleration and R&D savings through new pilots
- Provide thought leadership to venture investments team and business leaders
- Lead market discovery work via deep dives in select areas
- Support investment process, start up founder engagement and portfolio board relationships
- Brand ambassador for SE Ventures internally and externally
SCOPE UNDER MANAGEMENT
The Operating Partner will own dedicated coverage of select Business Divisions, Segments and Strategic Domains and cultivate executive relationships with the senior most business leaders there to drive commercial success for start ups and SE. The main charter of this person will involve SaaS enabled Industrial Automation, Data Analytics and AI and potentially others areas depending on business needs.
OBJECTIVES
Objective #1: Select start-ups
- Deploy global strategy, act a first filter of strategic fit with SE and financial potential of companies
- Contribute to scouting, lead / assist our Deep Dives to select start-up with strategic fit
- Assist investment process, finalize preferential strategic ROI (what are we looking for, why)
- Prepare and co-lead Investment board with strategic stakeholders (Business EVP, Strategy, LOB)
- KPI:
- Quality of portfolio: Strategic fit rank of start-ups passing Select gate
- Lead 1 deep dive / year
Objective #2: Select Problems to solve, Manage relationship with internal stakeholders
- Make the connection between start-ups (in Portfolio and in Pipeline) and Divisions
- Co-Shape Business Case and co-develop roadmap, Implement the common roadmap with SE
- Identify opportunities for POC
- KPI:
- Strategy downloaded for all Divisions in scope, Problems to solve surfaced and articulated
- Structured and active Partnerships Pipeline in place
- About (10) POC in flight with tangible engagement and with resources committed on both side or agreed upon use case progress to pilot projects
Objective #3: Be the Start up partner
- Manage Start-up portfolio “invested” and “selected / must win” from Pipeline
- Onboard selected Start ups, drive relationship with them (create intimacy and confidence with local ecosystem, helm them to grow, etc.)
- For the portfolio “invested” in scope, deliver value to the CEO in strategy setting and execution
- KPI:
- Have CEO excited from Schneider value
- Positive engagement of Startup team with key stakeholders within SE
Objective #4: lead Innovation pilots to successful completion
- Manage pilots (Design, launch, execute pilots), feed back with field inputs.
- KPI:
- Deliver (2) Successful pilots every year, leading to a MVP (minimum viable product), active contract and commercialisation
Qualifications
- 15+ yrs of experience in a combination of business consulting, business development, sales, strategic alliances and partnerships
- Strong communication skills and executive presence
- SW product development experience is preferred
- Demonstrated interest in energy management, climate technology and sustainability preferred
- MBA preferred
- Engineering degree preferred
