Valo Ventures

Investing in a brighter future

We are a multi-stage, thesis-driven venture capital firm championing innovative technology companies that create economic value as well as long-term societal and environmental benefits. We are a passionate and experienced team focused on three global megatrends (climate change, circular economy and empowered people). We seek to partner with mission-driven entrepreneurs operating at the intersection of purpose and profit while applying technologies to meet important challenges in the physical world.

Associate Role

Within the first three months, you will understand and contribute to the firm’s values, investment mandate and overall processes. You will engage with the Valo team and startup management teams as we diligence companies. You will support the development of strategic insights and investment theses by analyzing industry trends, estimating market sizes, assessing competitive landscapes, benchmarking company metrics, evaluating company financial and operating plans, and valuing investments. As companies successfully move through our due diligence process, you will support the authorship of investment memos. You will begin to own and manage our deal flow pipeline process, including data-driven and networking-driven sourcing. As we report to our LPs, you will develop presentations that share our performance and insights with investors. As we move towards a final close of our fund, you will support the fundraising process, including LP research and keeping the data room and presentation materials up to date.

Within the first six months, you will conduct preliminary screening of companies in our deal flow (learning from existing team members before beginning to take first meetings on your own). You will assist in maintaining portfolio performance and analytics reporting. You will attend industry events and trade shows on behalf of Valo to gather insights and source new opportunities.

Within the first nine months you will support the investment execution process including coordination across legal, finance, operations and other parties (including other investors, legal and other advisors, and the portfolio company). You will ensure pipeline management and efficiency across the team. You will begin to develop a degree of autonomy early in an investment process.

Within the first twelve months, you will have supported multiple investments. You will begin to formulate your own theses and identify promising startups that demonstrate high revenue growth, coupled with long-term sustainable competitive advantages. You will be able to discern strong business models demonstrating compelling unit economics which can lead to significant operating leverage and attractive risk-adjusted returns. You will have contributed to optimizing Valo’s processes and further building on Valo’s culture, brand and values. You will begin to form your professional network of peers.

This is a 2-3 year track, culminating in you founding a Company, joining a portfolio company or pursuing an MBA at business school.
