ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking to add an Associate to our investment team for a term of up to two years (24 months). This is an ideal role for someone intellectually curious and energized by discussing new technologies and startups, particularly focused on SMB Tech and culturally-aligned consumer companies. Within these categories, you will be exposed to various industries and business strategies while playing a role in helping determine which startups receive an investment. WHAT YOU’LL DO (EST. % TIME SPENT)

Diligence (40%) : Qualitative and quantitative analysis of prospective investments. This includes evaluation of the team, market, product, metrics, and customer and personal reference calls. Compile information and insights into presentations and investment memos.

Sourcing (30%) :  Identify and evaluate emerging startups through pitch decks and initial screening calls with founders. Outreach to promising companies that fit themes and trends we identify. You will also work closely with our accelerator program to identify investment opportunities within the cohort. Lastly, you will drive projects to enhance the firm’s data capturing capabilities while ensuring all founders have a world-class experience with us.

Research (20%): Research and prepare presentations related to industries we are exploring as a firm, helping find new areas aligned with our thesis.

Ecosystem Development (10%): Keeping track of and expanding our VC network through events and other opportunities that provide founders and co-investors with insight into our approach and learnings. Advance our mission of economic inclusion by conceptualizing and executing efforts related to making venture capital more accessible and understandable.

REQUIREMENTS

Strong analytical skills: You will be introduced to new technologies, business models, and industries. This requires you to learn quickly and then synthesize complex concepts.

Effective written and verbal communication: You will interact with various stakeholders, including founders, limited partners, partner organizations, and co-investors.

Demonstrated passion with a clear opinion: You love talking about the startup and VC ecosystem and holds thoughtful perspectives on new technologies and emerging trends. We continuously learn from each other.

Proactive and resourceful with an attention to detail: You must find creative ways to access relevant information and accomplish goals, thinking outside the box to deliver results in a fast-paced environment without missing any critical pieces no matter how small they are.

Emotional intelligence: You have a heavy dose of self-awareness, and an abundance of empathy are all required traits to work effectively with our team, founders, limited partners, and all other stakeholders.

Work experience: At least 4 years of full-time work experience; 1-2+ years of experience working in technology companies, startups, VC, management consulting, or investment banking is a plus but not required. 

Location: Our firm is based in Los Angeles, California. We are looking for candidates who are based in or willing to relocate to California. Modest relocation assistance may be available on a case-by-case basis.
