Requirements:
- 2 – 3 years of top-tier investment banking, consulting, or equity research experience at start date.
- Must be ranked near the top of your class with exceptional quantitative skills.
- Must have superb written and oral communication skills for presenting an investment thesis to a group.
- Must have an extremely high level of maturity and ability to multi-task with little supervision.
- Must have a strong academic background.
Direct Associate Role & Responsibilities:
The 80-member Direct Investment Group co-invests in buyout transactions alongside established fund managers and participates in growth equity and credit investments. As an associate you will have the unique opportunity to gain exposure to all types of direct private equity investment transactions (buyout and growth). As an industry generalist, you will be responsible for evaluating companies across a variety of industries, including but not limited to, Consumer and Retail, Healthcare, Financial Institutions, Industrials, Technology, and Business Services. You will meet with companies who are raising capital and fund managers (Venture Capital, Growth Equity and LBO firms) active in the market to seek out companies with strong business models. You will perform detailed due diligence – meeting with management, studying industry trends, reviewing financial results and conducting customer reference calls. You will also generate extensive financial models to illustrate the potential returns of an investment, and you will be a critical contributor to the valuation and structuring decisions.
HarbourVest makes its investment decisions in a team-oriented fashion, so you must be able to communicate the merits of an investment to other team members and be able to answer their questions. Lastly, you will be responsible for monitoring portfolio investments and working with senior members of the team on post-investment portfolio company activities. HarbourVest is currently investing out of its sixth dedicated direct equity fund, a $4.2 billion fund, and its credit funds, representing a combined $1.7 billion of incremental credit capital. In total, combined with separately managed accounts, the direct team has AUM of over $25 billion and invests over $5 billion into direct opportunities each year.
