The Venture Capital Analyst/Associate is responsible for assisting the Purdue Ventures team in identifying and executing early-stage minority equity investments to help support and scale companies with a strategic connection to Purdue University, one of the top 10 public universities in the country.“This position is expected to be on-campus, in-office, 2-3 times per week.”
Essential Functions
- Contributes to the development of strategic and financial rationale, as well as general venture capital deal execution assistance including deal flow generation.
- Assists in developing clear and concise presentations for an executive audience outlining the investment opportunity, including its strategic fit, financial return, risk profile, etc.
- Supports the due diligence process including research and financial modeling.
- Monitors and tracks ongoing venture trends and industry dynamics, as well as management of deal flow pipeline including reporting.
- Post investment interaction with portfolio companies regarding their ongoing performance, as well as continued evaluation and execution of strategic opportunities between the university and the portfolio companies.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong work ethic coupled with excellent analytical, judgment and critical thinking skills, with an understanding of financial statements, financial modeling, and data analysis.
- Considerable skill in conducting data, industry and competitive research in order to garner and evaluate large amounts of information and perform complex analysis of the data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to effectively exchange ideas and information; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
- Mature demeanor and projects an executive presence in meetings.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Exceptional skill in planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments in a fast-paced, changing environment and in completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to travel as needed in order to conduct due diligence on investment opportunities and monitor current portfolio companies.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 1-3 years of experience within investment banking, corporate development, transaction services, venture capital or private equity; or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.
- Will also consider upcoming 2023 graduates assuming internship or co-op experience in described fields and a strong academic background including a leading G.P.A. from top-tier undergraduate institution.
