Role Description
Bluestein is hiring an Analyst to assist with research and data analysis to support investment decisions and our portfolio companies. The role will encompass data analytics, market research, financial analysis, database management, administration, marketing, and day-to-day operations. The Analyst is a critical part of the firm, and this individual will have the unique opportunity to be immersed in all aspects of the industry. The Analyst will work closely with our small and collaborative team. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Reading/reviewing business plans and pitch decks.
  • Involvement in due diligence on new investments, including market research, business analysis, industry thesis, competitive landscape, business/pricing model, and financial modeling / deal structuring.
  • Preparing analyses and presentations to drive investment decisions and for engagement with the firm’s stakeholders.
  • Assessing market/company attractiveness to help identify compelling businesses.
  • Gathering, summarizing, and analyzing performance metrics from portfolio companies.
  • Conducting research and analysis, such as developing investment theses across key areas and ad-hoc market research.
  • Sourcing new, interesting companies and making first contact with them.
  • Managing the pipeline database.
  • Staying up to date on market and industries by regularly attending events and tracking relevant startup, VC, and food/retail news.
  • Supporting team with marketing efforts.
  • Helping team with whatever needs to be done (e.g. scheduling, emailing, event logistics, note taking, etc.).

Required Skills & Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience within management consulting, investment banking, corporate finance, venture capital, or private equity preferably in food / retail industries
  • 1-3 years of data analytics, financial modeling and / or valuation experience.
  • Must have passion for the food industry.
  • Strong market research skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, creative, detail-oriented, self-motivated, high energy, and a team player.
  • Self-starter, solutions-oriented, and comfortable working with minimal oversight. Demonstrated ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment (including proactively seeking guidance when needed).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior work ethic, strong desire to learn, and uncompromising attention to detail.
  • Passion for entrepreneurship / business, proactive, and driven to succeed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • BA / BS degree.
