Venture Studio is seeking an experienced CEO to join their team. This full-time position is flexible, with an opportunity to work from various locations.
Seeking an entrepreneurial business leader to continue the build out and manage the development of a network of 10-11 Venture Studios in the U.S. and Canada. The Venture Studio network is backed financially and operationally by an active family investment office with a superb track record of acquiring underperforming businesses and pivoting them to a more disruptive impactful business plan as well as launching startups from the idea stage around impactful business models.
The New Venture Studio network’s goal is to build and operate up to 9 Venture Studios in economic opportunity zones across the U.S. and 1-2 in Canada. Each Venture Studio will recruit and support promising entrepreneurs and seasoned execs to build and launch up to 8 new companies that disrupt and have an impact in their industries. The Venture Studio network will provide companies with shared resources in functional areas (strategy, accounting, HR, funding, tech, finance, recruiting, marketing), methods and extensive networks.
The Venture Studios and opportunity zone funds backing them are sponsored by an active family office which has acquired or started 65 companies since 1992, 30 of which were add-on acquisitions to existing platform companies. Of the 35 platform companies, 18 have been sold for 21 times the capital invested.
The CEO of the Venture Studio network will catalyze an ecosystem of startups, experts, advisors and strategic corporate and financial partners who work together to deploy new business models in major sectors of the U.S. economy. The CEO will oversee ideation, sourcing, and selection of new business concepts with large addressable markets, as well as selection of new venture studio sites and business focuses. In addition, the CEO will help recruit management teams to launch and grow each business, build boards of industry experts, and tap into their and the family office’s networks including seasoned veterans, promising entrepreneurs, and individual talent.
Work directly with the financial sponsor to help develop the studio’s purpose and ensure project alignment.
Help recruit, develop, manage, and scale a well-rounded team by attracting and mentoring extraordinary people.
Oversee projects to identify market opportunities, create new venture concepts, and develop go-to-market strategies for startups.
Rapidly evaluate concepts across multiple industries and confidently and collaboratively make go/no-go calls with an investment committee.
Develop and direct strategic short and long-range objectives/goals and ensure synergy between people, processes, and strategies to execute these objectives/goals.
Responsible for overseeing the overall day-to-day Studio operations across multiple locations.
Dedicated to helping build high-performing, diverse, equitable teams and cultures.
This role is ideal for an experienced entrepreneurial business executive who is excited about ideating and helping develop multiple businesses simultaneously. The ideal candidate is an experienced entrepreneur or operating executive who has developed and launched startups, is disruptive by nature, and possesses strong managerial skills.
7+ years of people management work experience, with demonstrated experience recruiting and managing high-performing teams.
Expertise in entrepreneurship, innovation and venture building.
Preferably, investment experience at the seed stage as a VC, angel, or through an accelerator.
Proven innovation and strategy capabilities.
Exceptional ability to communicate, both written and verbally.
Innovative and interested problem solver.
An entrepreneurial thinker with an appetite to take on a high level of responsibility commensurate with anticipated rewards.
Excellent professional references and high integrity.
This position will be based in one of the following Venture Studio locations: Boston, MA; Austin, TX; Salt Lake City, UT; New York, or Stamford, CT. Future Venture Studios (and other possible locations for the CEO) are planned for the following cities: Minneapolis, MN; Miami, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Los Angeles, CA.
The compensation for this role is $250k-$350k plus benefits and substantial equity in the Venture Studio business, the companies it starts and acquires and other Venture Studio activities. For the CEO, this equity package translates into ownership in potentially as many as 80 companies started across the network. In sum, the compensation package is heavily geared toward equity ownership.
